The First Step To Happiness

As someone who collects quotes, I have long enjoyed Robert Brault’s blog of his own inspired quotes and occasional stories, gems like:

“Having perfected our disguise, we spend our lives searching for someone we don’t fool.”

“Though we often wonder why God does what He does, we can be sure He does it on better information.”

“It is not necessary to be strong in every place if in the place you are vulnerable, you are loved.”

After a prolific online career, Mr. Brault is hanging up his hat. He said he deleted his last post, The First Step To Happiness, because it wasn’t up to standard. I’m dismayed – I was counting on finally learning this crucial life fact. To make my disappointment complete, Brault says in his last post that he can no longer remember what he believed it to be, saying that we will each have to come up with answers for ourselves.

I can’t help but be a little suspicious that Mr. Brault may have done this to his faithful readers on purpose. Leaving us with a deep philosophical question would fit his legacy of making us think. So here’s my shot at the first step to happiness: Make peace with God.

Peace to you, Robert Brault; you will be missed. Thank you for the smiles. We must all step forward a little and collectively try to fill the gap we didn’t know existed until you filled it.

“Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.” –Omar Khayyam
